Hope” is the thing with feathers –
That perches in the soul –
And sings the tune without the words –
And never stops – at all – Emily Dickinson

Therapy for Depression

Have you been feeling disconnected from your purpose? Depression feels like a narrowing of focus away from the good things in life. It feels like a creeping fog that blocks your ability to visualize a happy, hopeful future.

Common thoughts and feelings you might experience when depressed:

  • Nothing I do matters

  • I will feel this bad forever

  • I can’t tolerate the amount of sadness I feel

  • I don’t have time to feel my feelings

  • No one would care, or they would be relieved, if I disappeared

  • I am not a good person

  • Nothing will ever be ok

  • Why did I do/say that?

The soundtrack of ruminating thoughts and spiraling feelings often leads to anxiety and if untreated can erode the foundation of your life that you are working hard to build and maintain.

Therapy for depression with me is about building hope, understanding and reframing past experiences, and developing a compassionate attitude towards your emotions and the emotions of others. Negative thoughts and feelings are a normal part of life and counseling can help you endure through the tough times with support.

Start healing.

How Depression Shows Up in Everyday Life

In Relationships:

  • More conflict and irritability

  • Staying in one-sided relationships or staying through abuse

  • Loss of interest in activities once found enjoyable

At Work:

  • Feelings of emptiness

  • Inability to self-advocate

  • Difficulty with focus

In Self-Care:

  • Self-neglect (skipping hygiene routines, avoiding chores, missing important deadlines)

  • Putting off scheduling activities with friends

  • Neglect of the environment you’re living in

Recognizing these patterns is often the first step towards getting help

High Functioning Depression and Burnout

Many of my clients are gifted, highly-sensitive, or high-achieving adults. The risk for high-functioning depression flying under the radar is very high for adults that on the surface hold things together. You might be struggling with high-functioning depression if you can see external success and achievement, but inwardly feel that it is never enough.

As children, this might look like the child who gets a near perfect report card, but cannot stop ruminating about the lowest score. If this was you as a child, you may be a burnt out adult now.

You may…

  • Feel like you’re always “underperforming” compared to your potential.

  • Struggle with chronic dissatisfaction or a sense of restlessness.

  • Experience deep imposter syndrome despite outward reassurance

  • Find it hard to slow down, fearing stagnation or “wasting” your life.

Burnout often comes from both outward and internal pressure—but healing doesn’t mean giving up ambition. It means learning to thrive without self-destructing.
